The Oldest Moisturizer, Done Right

Before synthetic stabilizers, petroleum byproducts, and fifty-ingredient labels, there was tallow. We didn't bring it back for nostalgia — we brought it back because the biology makes sense. Rendered grass-fed beef fat is remarkably similar in composition to your skin's own sebum, so instead of sitting on top like a barrier, it melts in and leaves skin soft and conditioned.

We keep it honest: three ingredients you can actually pronounce, whipped to a golden, airy finish, with no water — and therefore no preservatives. Scent comes only from organic essential oils, never synthetic fragrance, in three blends for morning, midday, or the evening wind-down. Made in small batches in the USA, held to the same trust-nature, verify-science standard we bring to everything at Happenstence.

I absolutely love the Highland tallow cream

I absolutely love the Highland tallow cream. I’m in my 40s and so my skin has started to dry out and this did wonders for hydration. It seems to plump up my skin a bit so that the wrinkles aren’t as prominent. My husband also started using it - he has what’s referred to as orange peel skin and his skin looks so much smoother and healthier as well. He also uses it on his neck and hands where he’s had a lot of sun damage and it looks better. We have a subscription so that we are continually getting this product on a regular basis because it is part of our daily and nightly routine.

It smells wonderful and isn’t too oily after a while.

Overview

Tallow Cream is a whipped, waterless moisturizer built on just three simple ingredients: 100% grass-fed and finished beef tallow, organic extra-virgin olive oil, and organic golden jojoba oil. Tallow is similar in composition to the lipids your skin already makes, so it melts in on contact and leaves skin soft, conditioned, and comfortable — not greasy.

Because there's no water in the jar, there's no need for synthetic preservatives, fillers, or fragrance cocktails. Grass-fed tallow is naturally rich in the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, and whipping it to a golden, airy finish makes a little go a long way. Choose from three organic essential-oil scents to match the time of day.

Ingredients

Full ingredients: 100% Grass-Fed & Finished Beef Tallow, Organic Extra-Virgin Olive Oil, Organic Golden Jojoba Oil. Scented variants add organic essential oils.

Scents:

  • Verdant — organic sweet orange & bergamot (bright and lifting)
  • Highland — organic lavender & lemongrass (clean and herbaceous)
  • Nightfall — organic lavender & fir needle (grounding and evergreen)

No water, no synthetic preservatives, no synthetic fragrance, no fillers. 2 oz / 56 g jar. Made in small batches in the USA.

Suggested Use

A little goes a long way. Warm a pea-sized amount between your fingertips until it turns to a clear oil, then gently press and massage into damp or dry skin. Give it 3–5 minutes to fully absorb. Use on the face, hands, body, or anywhere skin feels dry.

Storage — the "butter" rule: With no chemical stabilizers, this balm behaves like real butter and softens above about 85°F. Keep it in a cool, dark place. If it melts, just give it a gentle stir and chill it in the fridge for about 20 minutes to reset the texture. For external use only.

Disclaimers

For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. If you have sensitive or reactive skin, patch test on a small area before regular use, and discontinue use if irritation or a rash develops. Keep out of reach of children.

Contains grass-fed beef tallow; scented variants also contain organic essential oils. Not suitable for anyone with a known sensitivity to these ingredients. Store in a cool, dark place — the balm softens or melts above about 85°F.

What to Expect

Lion's Mane works cumulatively — here's what consistent daily use looks like.

1
Warm

Melt a pea-sized amount between your fingertips

The warmth softens the tallow into a silky balm that spreads easily and goes further.
2
Press

Massage into damp or dry skin

Whipped grass-fed tallow sinks in without a greasy film, delivering deep, lasting moisture.
3
Absorb

Let it sink in for 3–5 minutes

Give it a few minutes to fully absorb and lock in moisture. No water, no preservatives, just three simple ingredients.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will tallow clog my pores or feel greasy?

Tallow is low-comedogenic because it's similar in composition to your skin's own lipids. A pea-sized amount, warmed and pressed in, absorbs within a few minutes instead of sitting greasy on top. If your skin is reactive, we still recommend a quick patch test first.

What skin types and areas is it made for?

Dry, normal, and sensitive skin — face, hands, and body. Because it's concentrated and waterless, a thin layer is all you need. It's especially handy for dry patches, rough hands, elbows, and anywhere that needs lasting moisture.

Why are there no preservatives or added water?

Water is what makes most creams need synthetic preservatives. Ours is a waterless (anhydrous) balm — just tallow and plant oils — so it doesn't need them. The trade-off is that it behaves like real butter: it softens above about 85°F, so keep it somewhere cool and dark.

Where does the scent come from?

Only from organic essential oils — never synthetic fragrance. Verdant is organic sweet orange and bergamot (bright, lifting), Highland is organic lavender and lemongrass (clean, herbaceous), and Nightfall is organic lavender and fir needle (grounding, evergreen).

How do I use it, and how long does a jar last?

Warm a pea-sized amount between your fingertips until it melts to a clear oil, then press it into damp or dry skin and let it absorb for a few minutes. Because it's concentrated, a 2 oz jar lasts a long time with daily use. For external use only.
